Bye bye Hong Kong

Monday 23rd January 2006 11.05am Hong Kong time

We are leaving Hong Kong today on the 7.20pm flight to Melbourne. This flight is only nine hours which seems nothing compared to the twelve hour one- should be a breeze!

We have had a superb time in Hong Kong managing to scram loads into our short stay. Here are my highlights:-

  • Wandering around Hong Kong island and finding the beautiful Hong Kong park which is a nice retreat from the busy streets.
  • Walking up 105 steps to the top of the park observation tower to catch great views of the city.
  • Getting bladdered around the Lan Kwai Fong and Soho area seeing a different side to Hong Kong!!!!!!!!!! (well it was a Saturday night)
  • Travelling on the star ferry to Kowloon and experiencing the maniac Golden mile (Nathan Street) which is full of Chinese shops selling an extremely dodgy collection of dried foods. I hope these things are used for medicinal purposes, put it this way you wouldn't want to eat them!
  • Travelling from the airport to the hotel in a taxi with a driver who spoke little English and tried to drop us at the wrong hotel. Listening to Chris trying to explain to him that this was the wrong place! (eventually he resorted to writing the hotel name on paper- a wise move!)
  • Travelling on the choppy ferry to ther island of Lantau to see the 'Big Buddhu' (not easy with a slight hangover).
  • Travellling on the bus to the Buddhu along curvy, steep and slightly dangerous roads (mom you would have hated it).
  • Sampling the local food (you know I like to eat) managing to avoid eating snake or someones missing pet pooch!
  • I could go on but need to check out of the room now so bye bye for now- I will write again once I can get connected in Oz. Love to all

Hong Kong

Friday 20th January 4pm Hong Kong time

We arrived in Hong Kong yesterday after a gruelling twelve hour flight (actually it wasn't too bad at all). We have spent the day exploring the city which is a great place- busy, exciting and vibrant (just like moi!). We are both suffering from jetlag; it is difficult to try and convince yourself that the local time is right, so I'm acting even more blonde at the moment!!!!
On the plane we had breakfast and immediately afterwards changed our watches to 6pm (Hong Kong is 8 hours ahead of the UK) that certainly messed with our brains. Off now to explore further and to sample the local delicacies, that's if I can understand the menu I may end up eating snake fritters who knows!!!!!!!

Love to all
Donnie
